Why does my throat hurt?

I have been sick for the past ten days. My throat hurts in the morning and at night. During the day it is okay. I have a pretty aggressive cough in the morning. My nose has been very congested. And for the last few times I try to blow it, my nose will bleed. My doctor said i don't have a sinus infection and he said I just have a bad cold that can last 4-6 weeks. But it feels like its something worse then that.
