Can I take a year off university?

I am just wondering if universitys allow students to take a year off just to take stock of things. I havent had the best of years in my personal life so I really dont think I am reflecting my best work. I just dont feel I am mature enough with university I thought I was but I am not , I just done my second year and it was apauling. I think a year working 9-5 will help me take stock of my life and help with my debt. Hopefully in the year I can grow up a bit and reclaim some pion or motivation to carry it on. I just want to know if plymouth uni (or any uni) can allow me this. thankyou and peace
