Adoption and Haiti--on a scale of 1 to 10?
Completely disgusted. The hypocrisy of it stinks to high heaven. Haiti has been under American and French army boots for its entire existence. Its previous president had the great dishonor of being deposed by a Marine-protected CIA entourage. Natural disasters in countries with valid infrastructures and civil defense systems do not suffer damage like this. What American has ever stood up and denounced their government's invasions, bombings, coup d'etats, inations, economic wars, and destruction of other countries? I live now in a place which has had U.S. warships off its coast; U.S. paid-for bombs dropped a half mile from my house; USAID as a cover for government interference. I know what it is like to stay behind (my choice) while the American government evacuates people in stages on a scale of white to non-white. That this should be made pretty for American eyes and wrapped up in nice overmediation of beneficence, altruism, and Saving the World for Democracy fools only those who drink this brand of KoolAid. This isn't about children. It's about destroying a country, its culture, and its people. This is part of the American Way: "We need to kill you to save you. But we'll take your children now that you don't need them."
